Hello! My name is Ms. Thomas, and I am your college adviser.I am really excited to work with you all this school year! Below are September action steps for college preparedness based on grade.
Seniors:
Register for the SAT/ACT! The October test dates will be your best bet for ensuring colleges receive your scores on time. See Ms. Thomas or Ms. Dunn for fee waivers.
Complete the Residency Determination Service. It is necessary for you to receive in-state tuition and many colleges require it for your application to be complete.
Finalize your list of schools you will apply to. Make sure it is balanced and you have safety, target and dream colleges. Start applying!
FAFSA opens October 1st. The FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for financial aid (free money). Parent/guardian and student tax information will be needed to complete it. To ensure you receive the most money possible, submit your FAFSA by December 1st.
Juniors, Sophomores and Freshman:
Make sure you're doing your best in every single class. Your sophomore and freshman grades will be the foundation of your GPA. Your junior year grades are the last grades that colleges will see.
Get involved in school and your community. Clubs, jobs and volunteer opportunities are good ways to explore your interests and are resume/college application builders
Families:
Students will need your information to complete RDS and the FAFSA.
Your support is vital to the success of our students! Please contact me if you have any questions about the college application process or need help along the way. I am here for your student and you!!
