TEACHER SPOTLIGHT

Teaching at iMeck is truly Ms. Wilkins and we are so happy she is a part of our iMeck family!

This week Teacher Highlight keeps the iMeck family moving, Ms. Wilkins.

Ms. Wilkins is a Middle School and High School Dance Teacher who kept her class, her peers, and our school moving this year even in the midst of the pandemic. From Jazz to Tap, when you walk into Ms. Wilkins's class you will see a variety of techniques from being taught in a hybrid setting. Whether students are online or face to face, all of Ms. Wilkins's76 students have a chance to participate, and her students love it.

Students love her class so much that her 2 of her iMeck Dance alumni reached out to her to do a special video showcase. Not to mention that Ms. Wilkins recently challenged all CCA teachers to join a dance challenge.

With all of her moves Ms. Wilkins has made this pandemic so much easier to function. Thank you so much Ms. Wilkins for sharing your talents and your student work with us weekly and contributing to our school's culture.

Check out Ms. Wilkins student's assignment on "Social Dance". Thank you Ms. Wilkins we are so happy to have you a part of our iMeck Family!

City of Charlotte Career Fair

Career Cruising

The City of Charlottes Youth Programs and the Teen Services division of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library has collaborated to present a career development series for youth scheduled for the summer of 2021. This series will include 1 career development session for each month during the summer in order to provide an opportunity for continued professional development outside of the school year. Please see the information below for the flyer and information about the sessions. The registration link is attached to this flyer. I have also placed it below for your convenience:

Session 1: Planning Your Journey (Get to Know Yourself) Tuesday, May 11 6:00-7:30pm

Beach or mountains? Starting out in the working world can be a lot like planning a trip! Where do you want to go, and how will you get there? In this session, you'll find out which job paths and career destinations might fit your personality best.

Session 2: What's in Your Suitcase? (Resume Writing)

Tuesday, June 15 3:00-4:30pm

Be prepared! Your skills and experiences are valuable tools that can make your trip go more smoothly. We'll show you how to make a resume. It lists the strengths and knowledge that you bring to a potential job.

Session 3: Shopping for Tickets (Applying and Interviewing)

Tuesday, July 13 3:00-4:30

Just like you shop for available tickets that match your travel interests, in the job world, you'll "shop" the internet for employers with job openings that match your skills. We'll walk you through tips on applying for jobs, avoiding scammers, and interviewing for your "ticket to success."

Session 4: Learning the Native Language and Customs (Soft Skills)

Tuesday, August 3 3:00-4:30

For an enjoyable and successful trip, learn to act and speak like a native of your destination. The way you interact with customers, supervisors, and other co-workers can set you on the course for success or for disaster. We'll share some great strategies and tips for smooth sailing.

Session 5: Head to the Port (Virtual job fair) Thursday Sept 16 3:00-4:30 (CMS Teacher Workday)

You've planned your journey, packed your bags, bought tickets, and learned the local language. You can disembark on your own now or explore the excitement of the job fair. Talk with the other "travelers", employers, and staff. Explore new resources or even change course! It's your journey- make the most of every day.

Driver's Ed

Students can sign up for Drivers Education beginning Monday, August 31, 2020 via Jordan Driving School.

Jordan Driving School, Charlotte teaches Driver Education safety to students who are at least 14 ½ years old, and who are actively enrolled in a public, private, charter, or licensed home school within Mecklenburg County. Students who attend school outside Mecklenburg County are ineligible to take Driver Education through Jordan Driving School Charlotte and will need to contact the closest public school to the school they attend to inquire about the Driver Education program for that county. Residency in Mecklenburg County does not determine Driver Education eligibility; where the student attends school is the determining factor. Jordan Driving School, Charlotte does not teach private lessons or adult students.

Beginning in August all classes are virtual. If you are interested in taking Drivers Ed you can register online. Payment for your classes can be collected at registration or at...
