February is CTE Month
Every February, the CTE community celebrates CTE Month® to raise awareness of the role that CTE has in readying our students for careers and college. Led by a variety of CTE groups and spearheaded by the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), the month is organized around a different theme each year.
In CMS CTE offers you a pathway to that promotees a head start for High School students. Whether you’re interested in architecture or automobiles, cosmetology or computers – there’s a pathway that will allow you to acquire deep career knowledge, gain industry-recognized certifications and test-drive your career in a summer internship.
Throughout the month the iMeck Leadership Team train all iMeck students on Naviance and to begin Career Action Plans and Portfolios.

Adobe Photoshop is the industry-standard image editing software, used worldwide by professional photographers, amateur photographers, and designers who want to perfect their digital images by going beyond what is captured by the camera.
Students who have received this Industry Certification are capable of using these credentials as they apply for Careers in Graphic Digital Design, for up to 2 years.
Now That's The Power of CTE!
Career and College Promise
Did you know that students can be licensed in their desired industry prior to graduating High School? Career and College Promise (CCP) gives North Carolina high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to get a "jump-start" and earn college credit toward a two-year or four-year degree while still in high school. Students are dually enrolled in their high school and at Central Piedmont Community College, allowing them to receive both high school and college credit for courses taken through the program. Best of all, CCP classes are tuition-free during the fall, spring and summer semesters. (Non-CMS students are responsible for student fees and insurance fees).

JA Finance Park Trip
On January 28, 2020, 40 CTE students from Ms. Monroe and Ms. Curry's Accounting and Principles of Business and Finance class attended the JA Finance Park trip.
A Finance Park gives 7th - 12th-grade students the rare opportunity to experience their personal financial futures first-hand. Upon entering the center, students receive family and income scenarios and identify lifestyle goals. They also explore and learn about different budget categories, create a budget, make purchasing decisions, and pay for their expenses. In this tablet-based program, students assume the persona of a provider for a family and must accommodate the needs of the family without overspending.
Students left with a better understanding of what budgeting looks like for parents.
Employment Opportunities Abound at DSS
