A Message From Principal Corn

WHAT'S NEXT
It has been expected that all students have spent these past three weeks communicating with their teachers and taking advantage of the supplemental learning that has been offered.
New learning starts on Monday, April 6. We suggest that you set a schedule for yourself that works for you and your family to meet your own individual needs. We continue to work closely with the district and with teachers to make sure that the work that is assigned to you is only focused on priority standards and can be reasonably done by just spending a few hours a week on given subjects.
We will continue to update our website, our student hub, and all social media sites as the districts give us more answers and guidance.
SPECIAL MESSAGE FOR SENIORS:
The State Board decided that seniors who are passing their classes will get a PC19 (stands for Pass) on their transcript. This applies to both semester and yearlong classes. If a senior does not have a passing average in a course required for graduation, they should immediately reach out to their teacher to discuss a re-looping / remediation plan. We are waiting for more information on several details and specifically if seniors will get to use Semester 1 grades only or if 3rd quarter grades will be included in this graduation check. We will contact each senior individually to confirm that they have met all graduation requirements. We hope to have this done by the end of the week. Senior teachers will continue to offer optional opportunities for learning and connecting with peers for the rest of the year.
Seniors in AP courses are STRONGLY encouraged to remain engaged and participate in these classes until they take their exams. We will encourage our AP teachers to ramp up review with AP students to prepare you for the upcoming exams. We will know more about AP exams after April 3, when the College Board is scheduled to release more information. We currently know that the exams will be taken at home, on any device connected to the internet, and will be approximately 45 minutes in length. They will be offered on 2 separate dates. We believe most exams will be free-response in nature. It is important to remember that all NC state schools agree to accept AP scores of 3 and above for credit starting this year.

2020-2021 Course Registration

iMeck staff completed 2020-2021 Course Registration for current student on March 13th. This included current 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. Due to an effort to move quickly, student were not able to bring the Registration Cards home to review with a parent / guardian. Rest assured, students will have an opportunity to make necessary changes to their schedules if needed. This can happen as late as August 2020.
If students did not complete their 2020-2021 Course Registration, please reach out to Mrs. Dunn directly to review and select courses needed for next school year.
CPCC Career and College Promise

During registration, Rising Juniors and Seniors had the opportunity to sign up for Career and College Promise classes at CPCC for 2020-2021.
Career and College Promise (CCP) gives North Carolina high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to get a "jump-start" and earn college credit toward a two-year or four-year degree while still in high school. Students are dually enrolled in their high school and at Central Piedmont Community College, allowing them to receive both high school and college credit for courses taken through the program. Best of all, CCP classes are tuition-free during the fall, spring and summer semesters.
Rising Juniors and Seniors interested in taking classes at CPCC should complete the following steps.
1. Online Information Session (Required for students and encouraged for parents)
2. Application

Give Blood
Although, our blood Drive for March was canceled, The Community Blood Center wants you to know that donating blood is more important than ever. Check out the letter from Mike Rogers, Senior Vice President, Donor Operations at Community Blood.

Virtual Career Exploration Opportunities

So much has changed and transpired over the last few weeks, that if I am honest, it has been hard to take it all in. Like many of you, I am working remotely but I really miss seeing and serving my students. I know we all are all preparing to start new content with your teachers.
But there are many companies and colleges that are creating new ways to interact with students. Beginning 4/22 I, Mrs. Kennedy, will begin to bring you Virtual Opportunities to encourage Career Exploration and to prepare you for life after High School. Until then, get comfortable with your new virtual classes, brush up your resumes and stay tuned for my Career Exploration Newsletter (Special Edition) coming on 4/20/2020.
Would You Attend A Virtual Career Fair?

As you may know, The support services team at Cochrane Collegiate Academy/iMeck was gearing up for iMeck's first Career Fair in March. This Career Fair was expected to host companies and colleges from across the of state NC. However, since the inception of COVID-19, we had to cancel this on-campus event.
This was disheartening for us because we like to provide as many opportunities as possible for our students. Therefore, we would like to host a Virtual College/Career Fair on April 25, 2020. Featuring vendors with on-site applications and possible interviews. If this interests you, please let me know because I only want to present opportunities and virtual events that are of value to you.
What: Virtual College/Career Fair
Tentative Date: Friday, April 25, 2020
Time(s): Various (See below)
