Now that CTE Month has come to an end, it is time for registration to begin. Thursday, February 28th marked the close of a very successful CTE Month. The theme of this years CTE Month was Career Planning. Throughout the month, iMeck Students were able to participate in several Rountable Discussions, Naviance Trainings (Career Mapping) and College Fairs.

Through these activities we were able to fulfill the goal of CTE Month, which is to "raise awareness of the role that CTE has in readying our students for careers and college".

To further drive this goal we announced the inception of our New CTE Pathways. A CTE pathway is a sequence of two or more CTE courses within a student's area of career interest. Pathways are designed to connect high school classes to college, industry certifications, and/or a career.

Beginning in the 2019-2020 school year current 9th and 10th grade, as well any student entering iMeck will be required to enter a CTE Pathway. CTE Pathways offerings will be determined by student responses on the 2019-2020 registration cards.

Currently, we offer The Business Education Pathway, however we are looking to expand our offerings. Therfore, when students in grades 9-10 register for 2019-2020 classes beginning this coming Wednesday (March 5), they will be required to select two of the three pathways below:

Pathway Descriptions

  • Graphic & Digital Design - A sequence of courses and the use of Adobe Creative Cloud software helps you develop skills in video and image manipulation, web development and visual communication. You develop logos and magazine layouts to help prepare you for Adobe certifications and a career in graphic art and design.

  • Marketing- This pathway teaches you core content to prepare them for multiple careers in marketing. You incorporate various technologies into courses and gain relevant credentials along with work-based learning/internship experiences.

  • Business Management- This pathway gives you meaningful instruction for and about business, finance and management. You develop employer-required soft skills including collaboration, computational and critical thinking, economic literacy, entrepreneurial skills, and problem-solving.

In addition to the new courses offered through iMeck, rising 11th and 12th grade students will be offered the opportunity to participate in Career and College Promise.

Career and College Promise

Did you know? That students can be licensed in a prior to graduating High School. Career and College Promise (CCP) gives North Carolina high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to get a "jump start" and earn college credit toward a two-year or four-year degree while still in high school. Students are dually enrolled in their high school and at Central Piedmont Community College, allowing them to receive both high school and college credit for courses taken through the program. Best of all, CCP classes are tuition-free during the fall, spring and summer semesters. (Non-CMS students are responsible for student fees and insurance fees).

Take A Tour of Naviance

We are excited to announce that our School has launched Naviance. Naviance is a web-based program for students to help plan, organize, and inform the college and career planning process. It is used for college and career preparation, career exploration, and academic planning. More specifically students may use it to request transcripts, college recommendations, and school reports.
