Senior Decision Day

One of the greatest moments as a Career Counselor is when a student has an Epiphany about how they are going to make their transition out of High School.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to experience that very moment with our beloved class mate Phillip Moore. For weeks I asked Phillip to participate in our trip to Red Ventures and everytime I saw him he would say "Mrs. Kennedy, I got you."

However, I insisted that he come and with the permission of his mother, we were able to take Phillip on the trip. Phillip was in awe with the place, and the different opportunities that they offered for students just like him.

He said to me several time "Mrs. Kennedy, I can do this, I can see myself working here." At that moment I knew that Phillip was now comfortable with life after Graduation because he would have options.

Although, Phillip will never get to work at Red Ventures or attend Livingstone, like he planned, he will always live in our hearts. And everyday we can take a piece of Phillip with us. So in everything we do, we can do it for Phillip.

With that in mind, now is the time to start making some decisions, just like Phillip was beginning too.

On May 15th...

On May 15, 2019, with Phillip in our hearts we will celebrate the decisions that our Seniors have made about their transition out of High School. On this day we ask that Seniors come to school with a t-shirt, pendant or something that identifies their next step for life. Whether it is for College or Career.

The time is now to spring into action and make a decision that will propel you into success after High School. The Charlotte WORKS, NextGen program is designed to help young adult career-seekers remove the obstacles to employment through a variety of services, including (but not limited to) career advising, mentoring, and leadership development. Our NextGen young adults are ages 16 to 24 and live within Mecklenburg County. Eligible young adults also identify with one or more of the following:

Are in or out of school
Have difficulty with math and reading
Need a high school diploma or GED
Are juggling the responsibility of a child or finding a stable place to live
Had some legal missteps
Want to attend college or earn a credential
