Lost? Career Mapping Part 1

ree

Are you puzzled about after high school plans? If so, this month is dedicated to you! Events like True Colors, Career Mapping and Resume Writing are sure ways to find some clarity.

However, you can get a head start by completing the Interest Profiler. Once you have completed your Interest Profiler and you have a good idea about what you would like to do after graduation, you should complete a Career Mind Map.

According to cultivitae.com, "Creating a career mind map is a great way to organize and brainstorm your thoughts onto paper, leading to clarity around your career. By putting all of your thoughts on to paper, one thought can lead to another, and suddenly you have a complete picture of what your career looks like – or should look like! "

In next weeks newsletter will feature Career Action Plans to aid you in planning for your future.

GEEK FEST

Over 57% (161+) students enrolled at iMeck have an interest in a STEM Career. For this reason one of our Career Month activities was to GEEK Fest. THE Geek Fest (TGF) is an exciting and eclectic annual celebration of the “geek” in all of us. This event is designed to educate, energize, and inspire the minds of students and community members by highlighting the creative innovations in STEM. This was a great opportunity for students to have hands on experiences with STEM Career simulations.

Did you know? That students can be licensed in a prior to graduating High School. Career and College Promise (CCP) gives North Carolina high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to get a "jump start" and earn college credit toward a two-year or four-year degree while still in high school. Students are dually enrolled in their high school and at Central Piedmont Community College, allowing them to receive both high school and college credit for courses taken through the program. Best of all, CCP classes are tuition-free during the fall, spring and summer semesters. (Non-CMS students are responsible for student fees and insurance fees).
